Bowmore is the oldest distillery on the famous whisky island of Islay and one of the oldest in Scotland. It was founded by David Simpson in 1779 and is also home to the oldest licensed warehouse in the UK – Warehouse No.1. The village of Bowmore, Islay’s capital, built up around the distillery and sits on the shores of Islay’s large sea loch, Loch Indaal. Bowmore is recognised for producing a balanced Islay style, combining gentle peat smoke with fruit and maritime influence. It has built a strong international reputation as both a leading single malt brand and a contributor to blends. The current owners are Suntory Global Spirits. One of the few places in Scotland to produce some of its own malted barley.
