Knockdhu was founded in 1893 near the village of Knock in rural Aberdeenshire. It has been owned by Inver House since 1988 and is one of Scotland’s most traditional distilleries. The single malt is marketed as AnCnoc, while the distillery itself remains Knockdhu. This is to avoid consumer confusion with the Speyside distillery of Knockando. The whisky is known for a clean, bright and fruity Highland style with a gentle malt sweetness. They also produce a heavily peated spirit for a short part of each year and this is created using peat cut locally in Aberdeenshire. This burns with a softer, sweeter and gentler style of smoke compared to peat from the western isles.
