Glenrothes was founded in 1878 in the Speyside town of Rothes. It was the brainchild of a partnership of James Stuart & Co, William Grant, Robert Dick and John Cruickshank. The whisky quickly became an important malt for blending. The distillery survived an explosion, and several rebuilds during the 20th century, eventually becoming associated with Berry Bros & Rudd, the UK’s oldest wine and spirits merchant. They introduced vintaged single malt releases. It is currently part of the Edrington Group portfolio. Glenrothes is known for a rounded, rich yet elegant Speyside style that is often shaped by sherry cask influence and has developed a reputation for balance and sophistication.
