Allt-a-Bhainne is in the Glenrinnes area of the Speyside region of Scotland, just down the road from the well-known whisky town of Dufftown. Allt a Bhainne translates as ‘the burn of milk’ from Gaelic. It was founded by Seagram’s in 1975 in response to the global boom in Scotch blended whisky sales. Now owned by Chivas Brothers, Allt-a-Bhainne is a major ingredient in their Chivas Regal and Ballantine’s. The entire production process was designed to be operated by one person, even in pre-computer days. The whisky made here is all carried to a Chivas facility in Keith by tanker and filled into cask there. Classic Speyside in style, they also make a lightly peated spirit for a short period each year.
