Braeval was founded in 1973 by the Canadian company Seagram’s. The original name was Braes of Glenlivet. This was later changed to Braeval to avoid confusion with neighbour The Glenlivet, once Seagram’s became part of Chivas Brothers. It is one of Scotland’s highest elevation distilleries at 350 metres above sea level (1,145 feet). Braeval is recognised for producing a light, grassy Speyside style and is primarily destined for blending, including as a major ingredient in Ballantine’s and Chivas Regal. Spirit is rare outside of this with just a couple of official bottlings in existence in Chivas Brothers’ The Secret Speyside Collection and Distillery Reserve Collection.
