Dalmore was founded in 1839 by Alexander Matheson. It is close to the village of Alness on the northern shore of the Cromarty Firth. In 1867 the distillery was acquired by the Mackenzie family, whose stag emblem remains central to the brand. Dalmore grew steadily as a contributor to blends before becoming more prominent more recently as a premium single malt, especially in the late 20th century. It is owned by Whyte & Mackay. The distillery is known for an opulent and decadent house style and a strong association with ex-sherry cask maturation, contributing to a profile often described as rich, luxurious and multi-layered. One of the world’s premium Scotch single malts.
