Glen Elgin was founded in 1898 by William Simpson and James Carle. It sits on the outskirts of the City of Elgin in the north of the Speyside region. The distillery was built as part of the late-Victorian whisky boom that saw several new distilleries appear across Scotland, particularly in Speyside. Glen Elgin is one of the key malts in the popular White Horse blend and has a cult following as a single malt. It has a long association with White Horse, which dates to 1930 when the License to Distil was given to White Horse Distillers. This later evolved to become part of Diageo, who are the current owners. The distillery even boasts a White Horse motif on its roof.
