Glen Ord was founded by Thomas Mackenzie in 1838. The distillery is on the Black Isle, near the Highland town Muir of Ord, and was originally named Glen Oran. It changed to Glen Ord in 1923 and has a long history of supplying whisky for blending. It sits under Diageo ownership and has been owned by Diageo’s predecessors for much of its history. Glen Ord has become particularly important in the Asian market as a single malt. It is one of three Diageo distilleries that form The Singleton range (Dufftown and Glendullan in Speyside are the others). The Singleton is one of the best-selling single malt ranges in the world. The site is also home to Glen Ord Maltings, which supplies many Diageo distilleries with malted barley.
