Glenfarclas was founded by Robert Hay in 1836. It is close to the village of Ballindalloch in the centre of the Speyside region. It is one of the few major Scotch distilleries to remain independently owned by the same family, the Grants, since 1865. Then John Grant and his son George took control following Hay’s death. Under their ownership, which now covers six generations, Glenfarclas has built a global reputation through a combination of family continuity, extensive stock holdings and strong commitment to quality casks. Its style is rich, nutty and well known for the use of ex-sherry cask maturation. They have some of the oldest remaining stocks in Scotland, some dating back to the 1950s.
