Glenlossie sits to the south of the City of Elgin in Speyside and was founded in 1876 by John Duff. In 1919, the distillery was absorbed into the Distillers Company Limited group. This evolved into Scottish Malt Distillers, and later Diageo. Much of its production has long been reserved for blending, particularly for the Haig brand, and it has remained relatively little seen as an official single malt. The only bottling is in Diageo’s Flora & Fauna range. This workhorse distillery is known for a clean, grassy and lightly fruity character that suits a blending role but also rewards closer attention as a single malt. In the early 1970s, the more modern Mannochmore distillery was built next door.
