Glentauchers was founded in 1897 by James Buchanan & Co and W.P. Lowrie, a whisky merchant from Glasgow. It is in the village of Mulben, near Keith in Speyside. It was built primarily to supply Buchanan’s blends with characterful single malt and has remained heavily associated with blending throughout its life. Ownership eventually passed to Allied Domecq, who were later taken over by Chivas Brothers in 2005. Few official single malt bottlings have ever been released, adding to its rarity and prestige. Glentauchers is now a cornerstone of the Ballantine’s range of blended Scotch whiskies and was the first of Chivas Brothers’ distilleries to become carbon neutral.
