Inchgower is close to the coastal town of Buckie in the north of the Speyside region. It was founded in 1871 by Alexander Wilson and remained in the Wilson family for over 60 years. In 1936 it was purchased by Buckie’s town council after the Wilson’s were declared bankrupt. A couple of years later it became owned by Arthur Bell & Sons and started its long association with the Bell’s blended whisky range. The company eventually became part of Distillers Company Ltd, which in turn later evolved into Diageo. Much of its production still goes into Bell’s, and official single malt releases are scarce. Inchgower is often noted for a maritime and salty edge, making it a distinctive Speyside malt.
