Macduff was founded in 1960 near the Highland coastal town of Banff and on the banks of the River Deveron. It was built as part of the mid-20th century boom in blended Scotch sales and is owned by John Dewar & Sons, which is the Scotch whisky part of Bacardi. Much of the production goes into blends, especially the William Lawson’s and Dewar’s ranges. Previous owners include the Italian drinks company Martini & Rossi. Macduff single malt is released under the name The Deveron. Older bottlings were named Glen Deveron. Macduff’s spirit is often characterised by a nutty, fruit-driven Highland style supported by modern production efficiency.
