Tamdhu was founded in 1897 by a consortium of whisky blenders including William Grant and the renowned late-Victorian distiullery architect Charles Doig. He also designed the distillery, which sits on the banks of the River Spey in the heart of the Speyside region, Tamdhu developed as a key blending malt before entering Ian Macleod Distillers’ ownership in 2011. The brand has since been strongly positioned around sherry cask maturation, which now defines its modern identity. Its profile is rich, rounded and spice led. They are the only brand to mature everything in ex-Oloroso sherry casks. This once workhorse distillery is now having its day. Worth trying if you like The Dalmore or The Macallan.
