Tomintoul is a child of the 1960s. It was founded by the newly formed Tomintoul Distillery Ltd. in 1964 near the village of the same name. This sits high in the Cairngorm National Park within the Speyside region. It changed ownership several times before being acquired by Angus Dundee Distillers in 2000. The distillery is known for a smooth, approachable Speyside style and has built a steady following through a broad range of official bottlings. The distillery is particularly known for its use of unorthodox cask types for maturation and finishing. They also produce a peated single malt for a short period each year and this appears under the Old Ballantruan name.
