The Macallan was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid and has become one of the most prestigious and globally recognised names in Scotch whisky. The distillery was originally known as Elchies and sits on the Elchies estate in central Speyside, overlooking the River Spey and village of Craigellachie. The Macallan has long been associated with ex-sherry cask maturation, it has built a luxury position in drinking, collecting and cask sales markets. This was helped by being the Scotch single malt of choice of James Bond during the Daniel Craig era. A major new distillery and visitor centre opened in 2018, which has helped to elevate the brand even further.
